Katie walked towards the Ampitheater with a small smile. The campfire was still going and she could her the mass of singing. She hoped her eyes weren't bloodshot from her crying. She still smiled through it though. Katie fixed the soccer shorts that she was wearing so that they were slightly above the knee. Her shirt was a crappy one from when she used to pick crops on the farm with her dad. Her stupid dad. Let's send Katie off to Colorado. That'll fix her up...Katie mocked him in her head.
When she reached the Amphitheater, there was oodles of kids, claimed and unclaimed. Katie felt overwhelmed suddenly. She didn't realize how many kids came to this camp. There must have been hundreds beyond hundreds of kids filling more the 3/4 of the seats. Katie walked up the concrete stairs to the back row and sat down next to boy who looked nice enough.
"Hi, I'm Katie." She held out her hand with a nice, cheerful smile. The best smile she could force out right now.
