Dylan sat on the side of his bed thinking about the day. He reflected on the moves he messed up in fighting and how he recovered from his mistakes, he thought about how fast he climbed the rock wall and how bad he was in archery. But mainly he thought about Katie, he had met her the other night in the woods and she saved his life, he had killed a griffin while alone and was severely injured. Then Katie showed up while he was unconscious and saved his ass. He liked her a lot, though those thoughts went away as soon as other campers rushed in, getting ready for dinner, and he began to wonder what they would be having.
He then heard the Conch Horn blow and they marched up the hill to the Mess Hall. He could smell the food and could tell it would be delicious. Dylan then took a seat at the crowded Hermes table, man he hoped he could get claimed soon, and hopefully not by Hermes, the cabin, training, and meals were way to crowded. They were having a rarity, steak. He got up and made a sacrifice, making a silent plead to whoever his father was to claim him so he didn't have to deal with the Hermes cabin.
Dylan then sat back down and filled his cup up with Dr. Pepper and took a sip, then he started eating, the food was as good as it smelled. He started chatting back and forth between his friends and trading food and this and that, that was when someone said behind him, "Hey Dylan." Startled, he turned around, they obviously knew his name, whether he knew them or not, he couldn't tell, but they probably had heard of him, he had needed stitches on his forehead and shoulder from the monster incident and his name had spread rather quickly about how he slayed a griffin and had to be saved by Katie. "Hey," he responded as he turned around, "how are you doing?" He was being polite and nice.
